Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route. This route is widely considered the best route to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Relatively new, it maximizes the climber’s chances of reaching the summit with its smooth acclimatization rate, and offers a wonderful experience due to the beauty and remoteness of its different climate zones. Recommended for physically fit people with some climbing experience.

Day 1

Shira 1 Camp (3.505 m, 6 to 7-hour duration)
Start your trip around 9:00 am in your hotel, and after a short climbing briefing, depart to Kilimanjaro National Park western entrance: Londorossi Gate (2.200 m). Continue by vehicle towards the drop-off point (3.500 m), from where you will start hiking to your first high-altitude camp: Shira 1. The route’s small gain in altitude and low physical challenge will properly begin your process of acclimatization. Have dinner and overnight at Shira 1 Camp.

Day 2

Shira 2 Camp (3.900 m, 5 to 6-hour duration)
After breakfast a light trekking will take you to the second high-altitude camp: Shira 2 Camp. During the trek you will be able to enjoy some fantastic views, and after lunch and a two-hour rest in the camp you will complete an acclimatization hike towards Lava Tower Camp, featuring a 200-meter gain in altitude. Dinner and overnight at Shira 2 Camp.

Day 3

Lava Tower (4.630 m) – Baranco Camp (3.960 m) 6 to 7 hours duration
Start your way in the morning towards the key point of the route: Lava Tower. This part of the route has a lot of ascents and descents that end at a camp at over 4.600 m, where in order to acclimate to the altitude you will have to spend 1-2 hours there, reason why that’s the place selected for lunch. After that, descend to Baranco Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 4

Karanga Camp (4.035 m, 4 to 5 hours duration)
Starting early to avoid crowds of other groups, you will first summit Barranco Wall, a short hike (around 1 hour) of low difficulty. After the climb and some rest, continue with a more difficult hike to Karanga Camp, where you will have a warm lunch, resting time, dinner and overnight.

Day 5

Barafu Camp (4.730 m, 8 to 10 hours duration)
The way to Barafu Camp will give you the chance to have unique views of two volcanoes: The Kibo and the Mawenzi. After lunch in Barafu, rest and sleep before night summiting.

Day 6

Summit Attempt (5.895 m) – Mweka Camp (3.080 m) 10 to 12 hours duration
Wake up at midnight for having tea and biscuits, and start your summit attempt, so you can reach the Uhuru peak (5.895 m) in time for sunrise, which will definitely be a unique experience. After reaching the summit you can also descent to the nearest glacier if desired. Return to Barafu and after a 2 hour rest continue to Mweka Camp for relaxing, dinner and overnight.

Day 7

Arusha (1.400 m, 4 to 5 hours duration)
After a warm breakfast, head back to Mweka Gate (1.650 m) to meet your group. You will receive the congratulations and commemorative certificates in order, and transfer back to your accommodation in Arusha.
