6 Days Kilimanjaro Climbing Machame Route

The Machame route, the most popular route on the mountain approaches from the southwest and descends using Mweka. Climbers will have a view of the, Shira Plateau, an optional scramble up Lava Tower, and a climb up the Great Barranco Wall. The descent occurs on the Mweka route. Climbers sleep in supplied tents at designated campsites, and eat meals either outdoors or inside a large dining tent. Crews/porters prepare all meals and sets up the tents for you. The minimum number of days required for this route is six days, although seven days is recommended. Machame route is the most scenic route compared to Marangu and much better for acclimatization, the days on Machame are longer and the walks are steeper. It is considered a difficult route, better suited for more adventurous folks, and those with some hiking or backpacking experience.

    Arrival

    One of our guides will welcome you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and drive to Lindrin lodge in Moshi, where you will be able to refresh and prepare for your trek experience.

  • Day 2

    Moshi to Machame Gate to Machame Camp

    We will pick you up from your hotel at 08:00 and drive to the Machame Gate. After registration and clearances, begin your trek through a spectacular forest area, reaching Machame camp after 6 or 7 hours. There you will have dinner and overnight (3,000M-about 9,000 Ft).

  • Day 3

    Machame Camp to Shira Camp

    Around 0830, you will begin your trek towards Shira Plateau You will follow a ridge with nice view before passing a superb bivi cave, just before arriving at Shira Camp, at 3,800 M (about 12,400 Ft), where you will have dinner and overnight. Today’s climb is about 5-6 hours. Start about 8:30 and trek until about 1:30.

  • Day 4

    Shira Camp to Baranco Camp

    Trek from Shira camp to Baranco Camp via Lava Tower, starting at 8 Am until 1:30 PM. You will have dinner and overnight at Baranco Camp. During the day you will climb to 4,600 M (about 13,800 Ft), then descend to 3,950 M (about 11,850 Ft) at Baranco Camp for overnight.

    Baranco Camp to Barafu Camp

    Trek from Baranco Camp to Barafu Hut around 5-6 hours (4,550 M, about 14,920Ft) where you will overnight before your ascent to Uhuru Peak. (5,896 M, about 19,340 Ft)

  • Day 6

    Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp

    Shortly after midnight, arise and begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak. You will then begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak, 5,896 M (about 19,620 Ft) about 12:30 AM and arrive at the summit at sunrise, about 7 AM. On your way back you will have a break at Barafu Camp where you can also have a short lunch break. You will descend to Mweka Camp 3,100 M (9,300 Ft). Alternatively, you can descend to Millennium Camp at 3,800 M (about 12,400 Ft), instead

  • Day 7

    Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi

    After completing your descent to Mweka Gate around 3-4 hours, arriving by about noon, you will receive your Summit Certificate and transfer back to your hotel in Moshi.

    Departure

    This day one of our drivers will pick you up and drive to the airport for your departure.
