Kilimanjaro Trek

Everything You Need to Know Before You Climb

Kilimanjaro isn’t just a mountain, but instead it’s a pilgrimage; a challenge that attracts adventurers from around the world. Rising 5,895 meters above sea level, it’s the highest free-standing peak in the world and the crown jewel of Tanzania.

At Greg Adventures, we’ve led thousands of climbers safely to the summit. Here’s everything you need to know.

1. Kilimanjaro Is for Everyone, But Not Without Preparation

You don’t need technical climbing skills to summit Kili, but stamina, mental strength, and preparation are crucial. Altitude is the biggest hurdle.

We provide acclimatization-friendly itineraries, monitor your health daily, and include rest days on longer routes to boost your chances of success.

2. The Best Routes: How to Choose Yours

There are several trekking routes, each with pros and cons. Here are our top recommendations:

  • Lemosho Route (8–9 days): High success rate, stunning scenery, low crowds.
  • Machame Route (6–7 days): Popular, scenic, good acclimatization.
  • Marangu Route (5–6 days): The only one with huts, but lower success due to faster ascent.
  • Rongai Route (6–7 days): Quieter, ideal during the rainy season.

Need help choosing? We match routes based on your fitness, timeline, and preferences. Reach out to us today to choose your perfect itinerary and team!

3. What a Typical Day Looks Like

  • Morning: Wake up to warm tea, breakfast, and breathtaking views.Pro-Tip: Some stretching before breakfast gets your blood flowing, and you warmed up for the day!
  • Daytime: Hike for 4–7 hours with breaks, enjoying diverse landscapes; we take lunch breaks in-between to make sure you are fuelled and ready for the second half of the day
  • Evening: Camp setup by our team, warm meals, health checks, and rest. Some singing, games or just relaxation at the camp site.

Summit Day: Starts at midnight—expect 12–15 hours of hiking. The reward? A sunrise above the clouds.
